Woah

Just realized, it's been about 5 days since I last updated with street style. It feels like it's been much shorter than that. Time goes fast between Christmas and New Years!

Here is the 2nd installment of what I'm looking forward to for S/S 2012. It's not hard to be reminded why Alexander McQueen is my favorite "brand," as their pieces are always so intricately constructed and extravagant. Sometimes they resemble art pieces more than they do anything else. As one who has loved art and design since a small age, I certainly approve.

Accordingly, spending more time on art is one of my resolutions this year!

Enjoy,

Nostalgia In The New Year

The New Year tends to be a time to look forward, a chance to express hope for the future. We anticipate executing our improved designs on the new year; we think that things will be different, if not better, this time around. I'd like to think of New Years Eve and the first few days of each year as the ultimate manifestation of all of our hopes that have been lying dormant for the past months. If you think about it, it's really just one moment that we condense all of those hopes into. For all you readers, I hope that one moment is up to your standards.

In the spirit of looking forward, I've decided to post a few pictures from my favorite runway collections for Spring/Summer 2012. Favorites of the favorites, you might say. In the spirit of not forgetting the past, the first collection is Rodarte's S/S 2012, which as you can hopefully tell, was greatly inspired by the works of Vincent Van Gogh.

Actually, I've only chosen two collections that had me absolutely drooling this season, so it won't be overwhelming. Happy New Year!

Rodarte's more structured pieces takes on a life of their own with vibrant hues

I especially love the sheer, flowing gowns and the asymmetrical hemlines. Also, a thing to look forward to in the new season, shimmery metallics!

See You Soon,

Street Style Around Campus

Leave it to Vanderbilt students to stay stylish during finals season. After a certain point, I just gave up. Well, to my credit, I didn't have to resort to sweatpants.

Cookie?

I realized I left my camera at school, so unfortunately I have not been able to capture the holiday going-on's back in the homestead. It's a pity, really, nothing warms the heart more than having a holiday-themed blog post. Kidding! Well, who knows?

A great part of the holiday season is surely the food--that's also the part that my family, my dad in particular, focuses on the most! Last night my friends and I curled up in front of the big screen with popcorn and hot chocolate. Hopefully there will be baking in our future... or truffle-making. I've also never decorated a gingerbread house before but that's certainly something I'll need to tackle when I get a chance!

Today's street style post is not so much an outfit as it is coat appreciation! Meaghan's peacoat has a texture that reminds me of cookie crumble, and all that is delicious about the holiday season. The warm cocoa hues also promise comfort and plenty of coziness. I never did find that perfect holiday coat, but Meaghan's coat is certainly a winner in its own right.

Have a Happy Christmas Eve, everybody!

A Break To Soothe The Nerves

Ah, home sweet home! Strange that home never feels the same after a fruitful semester away. They say there's no such thing as being "bored" when you're away at college, but that certainly does not apply to the good old city of Johns Creek.

No complaints, though, as I'm taking some much needed time to myself... just pure, unadulterated vegetation, at least for the days leading up to Christmas. After a round of especially exhausting finals, I consider it necessary.

It's nice to be part of a family that has a no-fuss approach to the holidays. No, seriously, though. We have no tree... couldn't be bothered to pull the plastic one we've been using for decades out of the basement. No big, hammy dinner plans, or wrapped presents, even. It's nice, though, just curling up on the couch with a mug of hot chocolate while I muse with my father over what we should eat for dinner. Some might say we've reached a new level of laziness, but I'd like to re-characterize it as being low-maintenance. Like, extremely.

I did finally drag myself out of the seasonal slump to update this blog with some much needed cheer. Before I left for break I got a few great pictures on my friend's Rebel... Ugh, I want one of my own. It will take many more months of work before I can even entertain the thought. But for now, here's a lovely street style shot of Mallie, who is similarly lovely and so sweet! Also sweet are the details on her cowboy boots, which she has paired with a (mint? sage?) green top. Any shade of green is good by me, and this happens to go very well with the red hues of her scarf.

Have a great break, everyone!

A Reminder

I AM STILL ALIVE! Well, currently, I'm in a state of sub-existence, because I've forged a new little cave for myself in the library, and one would hardly call this living.

Anyways, I am left with one final to go, arguably my most important one. Once I'm done with thaat, I've got a handful of great street style photos that I have yet to convert (but I will, I promise!), an outfit post, and an interview/photoshoot featuring my stylish friend from home, Iris. And her cat, Crumbs. So yes. I am in hibernation (My EIF-2's are phosphorylated) but I will be back.

SOON. LIKE, TOMORROW-ISH.

What Is It About Wednesdays

...that make them so miserable? I understand the whole concept of the "hump day" phenomenon, but I still just don't quite get it. Perhaps it was the (seasonably) cold weather or the fact that it's finals week, but today was very strange and surreal and I almost forgot which planet I was living on, let alone what day of the week it was. As you can tell, I am decidedly not studying for finals at this moment (but I have been all day, I promise). Speaking of planets, for all you nerds out there, look up Kepler-22b... it's some distant planet between the sizes of Earth and Neptune, about the same distance from a star as we are. The discovery channel sez it's possible that life could form on it, due to its orbit in a habitable location around a star... How awesome would that be?

I wonder if there are alien life forms out there fighting off sleep and studying differential equations... or maybe they're way ahead of us on that front. Who knows?

I've borrowed my friend's camera for the past few weeks and I've taken a few really good pictures. Unfortunately, it will take me a little bit of time to get them on here because it requires a trip down to CVS, as there is no converter, which is a bummer. But, photo quality is so much better! I do feel like the paparazzi when I carry it though, and nobody likes the paparazzi. Anyways, in the meantime, I have a great street style shot of Katie from lunch last Thursday! I don't know what it is about Grins, but all the pictures I get there always turn out so nice... what a lovely place.

Loved Katie's color choices, and the details of her gorgeous sweater! The sleeves are beaded!! Stand-out sweaters are hard to find, I've discovered... especially this time of year when really all you can afford to cycle are sweaters (or intricately layered stuff, but honestly I'd rather sleep) and everybody ends up wearing the same stuff.

Jenn

Wake Up

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is just to keep your eyes open. I mean that in every sense of the word... literal, of course, because as we speak my eyelids are drooping in an attempt at stealing away some seconds of sleep. I even mean it figuratively--if you're not paying attention, there's no telling of the things you will miss. These past months I feel like I've been drifting through life with a closed off disposition, with my eyes closed, or at least focused on one pinpoint of light until the rest of it becomes a purple haze and it hurts to keep looking. And just like that, in one excruciating blur, the semester has passed. Well, soon, anyway.

I've always been guilty of having tunnel vision, personally, of closing my eyes off to everybody else in the world other than my own interests, my own needs. But seeing what other people are doing, how other people study and succeed, the work of other fashion bloggers, of artists, etc, I have begun to become re-inspired. I'm still far away from knowing who I am, but I am beginning to look at more things, to peruse more options, I suppose. I'm not sure. These things are tenuous, aren't they?

I shot a photo of Sarah Catherine this week. I always love her color schemes, she makes purple and orange work in a way that I would never be able to pull off. Props!

It's hard to stay awake during finals season, but I know we can do it!

Blue Is The

The winter winds litter... Nashville with leaves crackling under our feet, chubby squirrels along the sidewalk, and hearths burning in our hearts. Or so I'd like to think. It's good to keep a healthy dose of optimism in a season like this (which I'm doing for the UGA vs LSU game to no avail), when the weather is hardly on our side. Starting tomorrow, my life will be scheduled around visits (more like extended stays) to the library, as it has been for the majority of the latter half of this semester. Oh well.

Winter, other than finals and frigid weather, brings about many lovely traditions as well, fashion or otherwise. In the regular world, holiday music and steaming mugs of hot chocolate always bring me to warm places. When it comes to style, I'm loving the variety of coats I've seen on campus, some vivid in color, others understated and elegant with classic, textured prints.

While I love the charcoal, black, and gray fabrics of the season, I think the sky represents those dark shades well enough on its own. What I want to see is color, bright and alive, defiant of the slate grays of the tree bark and the concrete and the clouds that litter the sky, defiant of the spirit-withering quality that winter so possesses. That's why I literally chased down Kelsey (with my shoe laces untied) to get this picture of her bright blue coat. They say blue is a color of sadness, but the brightness of this coat has sure lifted my spirits!

Just imagine a sky that shade of blue, how resplendent the world would be!

Love,

Jenn
